Not in the case of Bibi Graetz.
Artist, renaissance man, and all around awesome guy,
Bibi has an uncanny ability to instill beauty in his wines;
by instinct, taste, and feel...rather than formal education.
My love of Bibi's wines began in Las Vegas circa 2007.
As a sommelier at Caesar's Palace, I worked the floor
five nights a week at our Italian Restaurant, Rao's.
I loved the energy of this room.
We sat roughly 500 guests a night.
The hum out of the kitchen was electric.
Wine was flowing, both by the glass
and table side by servers and sommeliers.
I loved turning guests on to new wines,
broadening their palates, seeing them smile.
One wine making guests grin ear to ear was
Testamatta by Bibi Graetz.
BIBI GRAETZ began making
wine in 2000.
Tuscans previously knew him
for his artwork,
and reputation for being
a true renaissance man-
constantly in search of beauty.
His quest led him to wine and
without a formal education
in oenology or viticulture,
Bibi launched his flagship wine, Testamatta.
There was no looking back now!
Testamatta translates to
Crazy head in English.
Loosely, it refers to a person
that has a strong personality,
distinctive style.
Someone with a positive attitude
and creativity.
Testamatta perfectly reflects
Bibi's flare.
It is a Supertuscan,
but unlike its counterparts,
it is 100% Sangiovese.
100% Italian.
Just like Bibi!

Yes, Bibi makes some expensive wines.

CASAMATTA, which
translates to Crazy house in English,
completely applies to Bibi's life!
Artist, winemaker, husband,
and father of four kiddos...
he has his work cut out for him.
This white wine is a blend of Vermentino, Trebbiano, and Ansonica, which grows on the Isola de Giglio,
off the Italian coast.
As it is very treacherous ground,
50 meters in altitude and sun/wind beaten, it produces very bright, intense fruit to balance to ease of the Vermentino and Trebbiano.
